Research &
Development (R&D) Flags |
We product tested our flags at
3500 metres when a parachutist jumped from a plane landing in Sydney's Darling
Harbour for celebrations during Australia Day 1988. The flag was handed to Dawn
Fraser, taking it ashore to be raised. |
|
We tested flags again at
10,500 metres in France, 1991. The parachutists were raising funds for a local
community group. |
|
|
Cold Flags |
SCV supplied flags to The
Antarctic expedition, who took the flags and flew them in –55°C. |
|
The Australian School of
Mountaineering Expedition recently flew a flag on their world hike at –50°C. |
|
|
Highest Flags |
The Returned Serviceman's
League expedition placed our flag on top of the world's highest peak, Mount
Everest with a wind factor of 120 kilometres per hour and at –45°C. |
|
|
Fast Flags |
SCV manufactured and supplied
an Australian Naval Ensign (white), which was suspended under the Royal
Australian Navy helicopter when it flew over Sydney Harbour in 1987 at 80km/h. |
|
|
Largest Flag |
World record held for an
Australian flag supplied by Southern Cross for the Winfield Cup Grand Final
measuring a whopping 92 x 46 metres. |
|
SCV also assisted in the
design of the Sydney Olympic opening ceremony flag which measured 150 x 75
metres in 2000. |
|
|
Official Flag |
Supplied for the opening
ceremony of the New Parliament House, Canberra, on May 9th 1988, attended by
the Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. |
|
SCV supplied the Olympic
Rings Flag for the opening ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, on
September 17, 2000, watched by half the world. |
|
|
Secretive Flags |
On Sunday September 15th
1996, the new Sydney 2000 Olympic Games logo was launched at Darling Harbour in
Sydney. We supplied the flags for this and the Para Olympic launch and were
sworn to secrecy for nearly 6 months prior to the event. The difficulty was to
remain quiet until after the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, where SCV supplied
over 2400 flags, 180 flagpoles, installed 5800 banners and placed signage
keeping our installers busy for 2 months. |
|
|
Largest Billboard |
We've registered our entry
for the largest fabric Billboard in the world. It was placed in Perth and
measured 25x15 metres in September 2001. The banner was manufactured in house
utilising digital printing and a combination of appliquéd methods. In other
words the latest and the oldest technology combined to produce what we believe
will be another World record. |

Uniquely Printed
Flags/Banners |
2002, City of Sydney Council
approached SCV to produce 500 flags to contain 25 separate designs. Each of the
designs was to be a winning entrant in the "ART ABOUT" festival. Each of the
artist's designs required the image be adapted to the fabric and printing
method individually. It also pushed the boundaries of printing. Designs were
created on the fly; for example, we utilised a typical broom, coated this in
paint, and swished it across the screens to the creative design "life". In
other instances, the fabric was printed with colour overlays to produce an
unusual effect. Some artists even signed their names on the finished articles. |
